Into My Future

imagesAs many of you know, I formally resigned my position at Francis Parker School this spring after almost a decade and a half in a variety of leadership positions.  I hope to continue my association with Parker, which my great aunt and uncle founded 100 years ago, in informal ways.  For now, and following on my rather unique sabbatical research trip last fall, the future is both busy and exciting.

I have had a hectic spring speaking to, and working with, hundreds of educational leaders around the country as we define what the future of learning looks like and how we get there.  I am also deep into the writing of my next book that will synthesize the key messages of my journey last fall, and the input and knowledge of the educational leaders with whom I have the privilege of working.

I am honored to announce that I have been named a Senior Fellow of The Martin Institute for Teaching Excellence in Memphis.  I will remain in San Diego, but a great deal of my time will be spent expanding the national, and indeed international, reach and program of this marvelous public-private educational partnership.  We envision a bold and unique array of ways for educators to connect, share, learn, and develop transformational learning practices that will better equip our students for the rapidly changing world of their futures.

I am also pleased to announce that I have been asked to work with a partnership between the National Business Officers Association (NBOA) and the Online School for Girls in developing cutting edge collaborative blended learning programs aimed at re-imagining the financial and operating sustainability of independent schools.  More on this will be announced by the fall.

My primary release points for news, links, contact information, and resources continues to be here on my blog site and on Twitter at @GrantLichtman

I hope you will let me know how I can help you, your school, or your organization as I pursue my decades-long passion of developing a truly post-industrial age system of K-12 education.

Grant, Congratulations on your new adventures! As I embark on my next adventure back in Atlanta next year (and perhaps in other locations after that), I am excited to connect with you in your journey. I must thank you for serving as a catalyst for my re-engagement beyond my own school’s work this year. It was exactly what I needed and provided a window/door for me that was most needed at this point in my career. When I arrive back in Atlanta this summer, I am so excited to re-connect with amazing educators such as Bo Adams, Brett Jacobsen, and Jill Gough locally and also with you through the Martin Institute. I have so loved my connection with Lee Burns over the last few years, and your formal association through PDS has again enlightened and invigorated me. To future endeavors!!!!

Wow…another puzzle piece of the “Greater Plan of Education” is revealed. This is getting really interesting! I wonder whose circumstances are next to change…?

Did you ever think, when you first packed your Prius and drove-off into the sunrise (or sunset?), that your search for innovation would transform you so deeply? I guess, that is the only way it can be done authentically, right?

At any rate, may your journey continue to be as joyful, enriching and life-changing as you will it to be, and may you have the power and energy available to “be the change you wish to see”. At MVPSchool, we will certainly be watching and supporting you. Best wishes.

Thanks, Lisa. No, the future is always unknowable and sometimes we just have to go in a direction of least travel and see what happens. Happy it connected me with wonderful people. Looking fwd to increased collaboration with MVP now that my “2nd better half” has an office there!

I think your new career pursuit is more noble than mine was as a lawn mower mechanic. Hope you find it rewarding and I am sure education will be better off with minds like yours working to innovate and improve.

Thanks, Gordie, though as you know from riding your motorcycle, no doubt with a copy of Pirsig’s Zen and the Art of…in the side pocket, there is a LOT of lawnmower repair which overlaps in fixing just about anything, including education.

“We envision a bold and unique array of ways for educators to connect, share, learn, and develop transformational learning practices that will better equip our students for the rapidly changing world of their futures.” (Bravo!)

Congratulations, Grant – what an amazing set of new possibilites in this next step. It sounds like a great fit!

I appreciate your talent for asking questions that facilitate deep, meaningful conversations about the future of teaching and learning. Your visit to Parish Episcopal was such a welcome catalyst for self-reflection within our community, and we continue to feel ripple effects in our work with students.

I’m pleased to read that you will continue to lead and serve in collaboration with The Martin Institute – at the leading edge of shifts in education.

Thanks, Dave. Looking forward to seeing the team from Parish at the Martin Conference next month, and to enhanced ways for us to cooperate in the future!
